Yamaha CFX & Bösendorfer Imperial piano samples

Two of the world’s finest concert grand pianos are at your fingertips. The Yamaha CFX is the finest 9-foot concert grand piano, selected and played by the winner of the 2010 International Chopin Piano Competition. The Imperial from Bösendorfer has been held in high esteem by pianists throughout the brand’s long history. These renowned pianos are characterized by their distinctive power, versatility, and subtlety.

Binaural Sampling

Binaural sampling allows for an incredible sound to be heard through headphones. This is a highly sophisticated recording technique, in which a special combination of microphones are used: two microphones are actually installed into the ears of a model of a human head, so that the sound reproduced is from the pianist’s perspective.

GH3X (Graded Hammer 3X) Keyboard w/Synthetic Ebony & Ivory Key Tops, escapement

By using a similar hammer mechanism (with no springs) as the one found in a grand piano, the GH3 keyboard action reproduces the touch of an acoustic instrument, from the heavier feel in the lower register to the lighter touch in the upper octaves. It also features a three-sensor configuration which accurately senses and interprets the behavior of the keyboard to create a response and feel very much like that of a grand piano.

The GH3X keyboard features an escapement mechanism that reproduces the feel of an acoustic piano as it goes through the let-off of the jack and the fall of the hammer when a key is played very softly.

Synthetic ebony & ivory key tops reproduce the tactile surface of the ivory white keys, and wooden ebony keys once used in acoustic pianos. It features highly absorbent material that prevents fingers from slipping even after hours of performing, while retaining the ideal texture and feel.

Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM)

In a grand piano, strings and sounds resonate throughout the entire body of the instrument to produce a rich reverberation that envelops the listener in sound. Not only are the strings vibrating as you play, but other strings ring as well, in reaction to ones you play. Some keys strike a different number of strings depending on their position on the keyboard; this explains why the sound of an acoustic piano is so complex and rich.

This experience is reproduced perfectly on select Clavinova models through Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) which calculates the various states of the strings for each of the 88 notes on the keyboard, from one instant to the next. As a result, the Clavinova sound features a seemingly limitless number of elements in common with an acoustic piano.

Key-off Samples

The moment you lift your fingers from the keys of a grand piano, subtle changes occur in the instrument’s tone as the damper is lowered onto the strings to mute the sound. Key-off samples feature actual recordings of these changes, offering a faithful reproduction of the most subtle nuances in the piano’s tone to create a more realistic overall sound.

String Resonance

The Clavinova faithfully recreates the sound of an acoustic piano by utilizing features such as String Resonance to emulate the mellow tonal colors that occur when strings react to one another. The result is a beautiful tone with rich, deep reverberation.

Damper Resonance DSP

Stereo Sustain samples provide mellow reverberations when the player depresses the damper pedal. Similarly, Damper Resonance DSP provides broad and deep resonance when the pedal is used. The result is more realistic sound, similar to that of an acoustic piano. It is possible to detect the subtle changes that occur when the players begins to press the pedal while striking a key.

USB audio (WAV) recording/playback

The USB to Device port allows you to connect your USB flash drive and use it as a built-in piano recording studio. You can store your performances directly on the USB flash drive as audio songs. These songs are stored in WAV format, so you can listen back using the keyboard’s on-board speaker system, or conveniently play them on a computer, transfer them to a portable media device or upload them to share with friends online.

Drum Rhythms

Use the on-board drum rhythms for practice or performance. There’s a variety of rhythm patterns to choose, from basic rock to shuffle and swing beats. Use the rhythms to add an element of fun to your practicing, or simply use them as a virtual drummer for your performances.

1/8″ AUX input

Use the speakers of your instrument to listen to the audio playback of your portable music player, iOS device, mixer, or computer via the 1/8″ AUX input. Simply connect the output of your device to the AUX line input and turn up the volume. You can use this feature to listen to your favorite tracks, or play along with them since your instrument will still function normally at the same time!

16-track, 250 song recorder

The recording function featured in Clavinova digital pianos allows you to record your performances with a single touch, which is useful when you want to review or archive your playing. You can record up to 16 tracks for simultaneous playback allowing you to create your own songs using different sounds, or record each hand separately. Store up to 250 of your songs internally.

* Recordings are made in MIDI format, and can also be recorded to USB flash memory. Compatible software is required for playback of recorded data on a computer.

Stereophonic Optimizer

The Stereophonic Optimizer is unique to Yamaha. When playing and listening to the instrument using headphones, the Stereophonic Optimizer adjusts the spacing of the sound and the separation from the piano, resulting in a spacious, surround sound quality that will inspire you to play for hours at a time. Within this private listening environment, the sound of the piano can be perceived to come from the body of the instrument rather than from the headphones, providing a more realistic and natural experience.

Full Dot LCD Display (Size: 128 x 64 dots)

The new Full Dot LCD Display (128 x 64) adds luxury and ease of use to this generation of digital pianos. This interface gives the user the feedback they desire when making adjustments or selecting features of the instrument.

Smooth Release

Smooth Release technology offers the crisp tone heard when playing staccato as well as the lingering sound produced by releasing the keys slowly. This provides a finely-nuanced response to the pianist’s playing
