The Clavinova CSP-170 teaches anyone how to play their favorite songs, right out of their music library. Stream Lights, exclusive to the CSP, move towards each key showing users which notes to play and when to play them. Users can adjust the speed at which they’re learning, as well as the difficulty of the piano arrangement as they improve.

Audio To Score
The Smart Pianist app’s Audio to Score feature scans the songs in the music library on your smart device. It analyzes the audio, and then produces a piano score that can be customized to your liking. Change the score to be more rhythmically complex to challenge yourself, or to match the feel of the song. The Stream Lights on the CSP will intuitively light up above the correct keys to play, and will also show you when to play them. A chord chart is also produced to that you can follow along with your own voicings, if that is your preferred method of reading. If a chord or the tempo is analyzed incorrectly, quick and easy adjustments can be made. The chord information can even be converted to MIDI, allowing your CSP Clavinova to play back the chords to the song using the accompaniment Style of your choosing. Never before has technology made it so easy to learn how to play your favorite songs!
Stream Lights
Stream Lights show you which notes to play and when to play them, with four LED lights above each key. Lights move towards the keys to show the timing of the next note in the song. Stream Lights are useful when you’re in Guide Mode, where a midi song displays the next note and waits for you to play it before proceeding. But they’re also great when used with the Audio to Score feature of the CSP, with the user’s own library of audio song files. While Audio to Score doesn’t work with Guide Mode (which waits for you), the tempo of audio songs can be slowed down to learn at a comfortable pace as you progress.
Tablet-Based User Interface
Tablet-based user interface takes advantage of smart devices like an iPad or Android tablet. This helps keep the elegant, traditional look of a classic piano. All of the internal features are accessed via a high-quality touch screen.
Yamaha CFX & Bösendorfer Imperial piano samples
Two of the world’s finest concert grand pianos are at your fingertips. The Yamaha CFX is the finest 9-foot concert grand piano, selected and played by the winner of the 2010 International Chopin Piano Competition. The Imperial from Bösendorfer has been held in high esteem by pianists throughout the brand’s long history. These renowned pianos are characterized by their distinctive power, versatility, and subtlety.
Yamaha Natural Wood X (NWX) keyboards are created using our unrivaled woodworking expertise, acquired through more than a century of crafting fine acoustic pianos. The material used for NWX keyboards is cut from wood that has been carefully dried, and chosen specifically for use in making musical instruments. Only the best wood from the finest part of the tree is selected, resulting in a keyboard that is more resistant to buckling and warping than common laminated wood keyboards.
The NWX keyboard also features an escapement mechanism that reproduces the feel of an acoustic piano as it goes through the let-off and drop of the hammer when a key is played very softly. The action has been designed in such a way that the escapement is discernible only on the lightest keystrokes, similar to the keyboard of a grand piano.
1/4″ Mic Input
The 1/4″ microphone input allows you to connect a microphone so that you can sing along while you play. You’ll hear your voice through the instrument’s speaker system and anything the microphone picks up can also be recorded to USB audio. Pair this feature with the You Are the Artist series sheet music and MIDI files, and you’ll be the star of your own show!
Vocal Harmony 2 with Synth Vocoder
With Vocal Harmony you can sing along with three of your own virtual background vocalists. Vocal Harmony2 takes that a step further with new pitch recognition and stability controls.
Melody Suppressor
Connect your portable music player to the Aux Line Input jack and enable Melody Suppressor to isolate and reduce the volume of the lead vocal or lead melody for the song you’re listening to. This leaves room for you to sing the lead, or play the melody along with your favorite tracks.
Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM)
In a grand piano, strings and sounds resonate throughout the entire body of the instrument to produce a rich reverberation that envelops the listener in sound. Not only are the strings vibrating as you play, but other strings ring as well, in reaction to ones you play. Some keys strike a different number of strings depending on their position on the keyboard; this explains why the sound of an acoustic piano is so complex and rich.
This experience is reproduced perfectly on select Clavinova models through Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) which calculates the various states of the strings for each of the 88 notes on the keyboard, from one instant to the next. As a result, the Clavinova sound features a seemingly limitless number of elements in common with an acoustic piano.
Binaural Sampling
Binaural sampling allows for an incredible sound to be heard through headphones. This is a highly sophisticated recording technique, in which a special combination of microphones are used: two microphones are actually installed into the ears of a model of a human head, so that the sound reproduced is from the pianist’s perspective.
Key-off Samples
The moment you lift your fingers from the keys of a grand piano, subtle changes occur in the instrument’s tone as the damper is lowered onto the strings to mute the sound. Key-off samples feature actual recordings of these changes, offering a faithful reproduction of the most subtle nuances in the piano’s tone to create a more realistic overall sound.
Accompaniment Styles
One of the defining features of a Clavinova are the hundreds of different Styles that can be controlled in real-time chords on the keyboard. Accompaniment Styles introduce ensembles of virtual musicians to your performances in a variety of musical genres. From small jazz ensembles to full orchestras, you control what chords or harmony they play based on what YOU play. Plus, you control the dynamic of the ensemble. Developed by professional session musicians from around the world, Styles let you recreate sound ranging from a small band to a full orchestra – even if you’re playing by yourself. You can use Styles to add embellishing Intros, Endings & Fill-Ins, and even arrange songs in real-time.
Registration Memory
Registration Memory feature allows you to save a variety of settings quickly to a single button, kind of like taking a snapshot of your keyboard’s configuration. When you want to recall that configuration, simply push the button you saved to and the keyboard will instantly reconfigure itself, just the way you wanted. You’ll never forget your favorite settings!
Audio Time Stretch and Pitch Shift
The powerful pitch shift feature lets you change the key of your audio song without changing the tempo. If you want to change the tempo, you can use the time stretch feature to slow down or speed up the tempo without changing the pitch.
Aux Line Input
Whether you want to play along with your favorite recordings or just listen to music from your MP3 player, the Aux Line Input feature allows you to connect your device and hear it back through the keyboard’s on-board speaker system. This feature is a great companion for the NoteStar app, Piano Diary, Song Chords, and other apps that feature audio playback.
