Yamaha CFX & Bösendorfer Imperial piano samples
Two of the world’s finest concert grand pianos are at your fingertips. The Yamaha CFX is the finest 9-foot concert grand piano, selected and played by the winner of the 2010 International Chopin Piano Competition. The Imperial from Bösendorfer has been held in high esteem by pianists throughout the brand’s long history. These renowned pianos are characterized by their distinctive power, versatility, and subtlety.
Binaural Sampling
Binaural sampling allows for an incredible sound to be heard through headphones. This is a highly sophisticated recording technique, in which a special combination of microphones are used: two microphones are actually installed into the ears of a model of a human head, so that the sound reproduced is from the pianist’s perspective.
GrandTouch Keyboard
Grand Piano keyboards are characterized by a light feel when played gently, and a heavier feel when played with more strength. Conversely, a non-grand piano keyboard has a uniform resistance regardless of whether the player uses a gentle or heavy touch. This has traditionally been one of the most significant differences between the touch of a grand piano and that of a digital piano. However, when developing GrandTouch keyboard action, Yamaha sought to reproduce the true key resistance that is unique to the grand piano, with greater fidelity. The result is an instrument with a more responsive touch, offering a greater dynamic range than ever before. Now you can experience a much more controlled, nuanced sound when playing softly, or powerful, brighter tones when playing with a stronger touch — just like that of a grand piano.
Key Counterweights
Counterweights are embedded in the keys of a grand piano to balance the weight of the hammers and offer more precise control when playing delicately at low volumes. The Clavinova features carefully-adjusted counterweights for improved playability when playing pianissimo with a light touch, and better key return in rapid passages. The keyboard of the Clavinova has been fine-tuned to offer optimal balance, emphasizing its superb playability and grand piano response.
Color Touch Panel
This easy-to-understand touch screen makes your instrument simple to operate: you can touch, slide, swipe or rotate contents in the screen to access different functions make adjustments. Adjustable brightness ensures an easy-to-read screen in all situations. Other buttons on the panel are laid out in easy-to-see and reach locations.
Chord Looper
Not only is this feature great for those who wish to play two-hand parts over top of Styles, but Chord Looper is also very handy for the songwriter. Looping a chord progression gives you the freedom to try out various vocal parts for a verse, a chorus etc. without having to commit to a full song arrangement. Record your chord changes and let the Style take over while you work out a melody or some lyrics. Once you’ve got it just right, move on to the next section or record the whole song!
Playlist
Playlist contains records for songs, allowing you to recall a variety of settings just by selecting the song title. For instance, if the song you are performing needs a set of registrations, a backing MIDI file, a Style set to sync start on Intro II, and a specific set of Voices, all of these settings can be saved to the song record in Playlist. When it’s time to perform, you simply select the song from Playlist and all of those settings will be restored, allowing you to jump right into your performance without spending time trying to reconfigure your instrument.
Bluetooth Audio
Any Bluetooth-enabled device can connect to your Clavinova wirelessly so that you can listen to your music library through the high-quality speaker system of the piano. You can listen to MP3s from your smart phone, or even hear the sound from streaming videos through the Clavinova’s speaker system. Pairing your device with the Clavinova is quick and easy!
Super Articulation 2 (SA2) Voices
Yamaha’s Super Articulation 2 Voices (SA2) add genuine performance attributes of the real musical instruments as though they were being naturally performed by a virtuoso of that instrument instead of from the keys of a piano keyboard. Examples include “fret noise” or “body knocks” from a guitar or the “inhales”, “exhales” and glissandos from wind instruments. By simply varying your touch and playing techniques or using the pedals, SA2 Voices will add significant authenticity to your sound.
Piano Room with Session Mode
The Piano Room has been expanded to include the world-class CFX and Bösendorfer Grand Pianos, as well as vintage Electric Pianos. In Session Mode, you can invite three additional session musicians into the room to accompany you as you practice and perform in 40 different musical styles. These session musicians will automatically follow your harmonies in either full-keyboard mode or split mode, and will also follow your volume expression. These session musicians can selectively be activated and deactivated depending upon your musical needs at the time. Within this special room, you can even record your sessions with the touch of a single button.
Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM)
In a grand piano, strings and sounds resonate throughout the entire body of the instrument to produce a rich reverberation that envelops the listener in sound. Not only are the strings vibrating as you play, but other strings ring as well, in reaction to ones you play. Some keys strike a different number of strings depending on their position on the keyboard; this explains why the sound of an acoustic piano is so complex and rich.
This experience is reproduced perfectly on select Clavinova models through Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) which calculates the various states of the strings for each of the 88 notes on the keyboard, from one instant to the next. As a result, the Clavinova sound features a seemingly limitless number of elements in common with an acoustic piano.
USB to HOST (MIDI & Audio)
This feature allows audio transfer through the USB to Host port. You can digitally record your performance to your computer or iOS device. Connecting to your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, adds a new dimension of MIDI control with apps. What makes it so great is that now you can achieve both MIDI and audio transfer functionality with the simplicity of just one cable connection.
USB audio (MP3/WAV) recording/playback
With this method, recorded performances are saved to the instrument as an Audio file. Recording is done without designating the recorded part. Since it is saved in stereo WAV format of normal CD quality resolution (44.1kHz/16-bit) by default, it can be transmitted to and played on portable music players by using a computer. It can also be recorded in MP3 format (44.1 kHz sample rate, 128/256/320 kbps bit rate, stereo). This instrument allows you to record up to 80 minutes per single recording.
Vocal Harmony 2
You can enjoy karaoke backing with songs stored in your Clavinova or downloaded from YamahaMusicsoft.com. The lyrics are shown on the display* and the words change color as the song advances, so you know exactly when to come in. You can even display the lyrics on a big TV screen so everyone can join in!
*Only if the song data includes lyrics.
Plug in a microphone, and you can sing along with your playing.
The Vocal Harmony 2 (VH2) engine creates advanced sounding harmonies, enriching your voice and is even capable of correcting your pitch!

Performance Assistant Technology (P.A.T.)

Simply enable P.A.T., press play, and play along with the MIDI song and any note you hit will fit right in. Even a first time player will sound great.
